Your image is the total package of yourself that is presented to the mass media. Although many rappers neglect their image because they don't want to seem "fake" they should not as it has a psychological effect on their rhymes. If an emcee is generally not liked or very well or suffers from a lack of a loyal fan base, crowd or any support (like because you suck, or are just lame as hell) your rhymes may not even be listened to, only your swagger and actions will be viewed, it will be as if you're rhymes are on a mental mute. For example if a rapper is held in high esteem and then found to be homosexual, racist or atheist (or lame aka Ja Rule) it could drastically effect his image to the media and he may never again be taken serious. Even his rhymes may elude to the fact that he is gay, soft or a devil worshipper in the minds of the average consumer.
