Your most important piece of furniture is not your computer studio desk. Well, it is for your equipment. For your health, the office chair is the most important piece of furniture. Why? Let me think. You type and use your mouse (and play with those damn equipment knobs) on your computer and only stand during those times in the recording process of your vocals for 45 second raps in a microphone, this results in a song about 4 minutes in length. What do you do with those other thousands of hours you spend in your studio. You sit. Yes, I know you want to believe that you're active as hell in a studio, but you're not. If you mix and master your own tracks you spend even more thousands of hours in the damn chair. Since 99.9 percent of the time in your studio will be spent in a chair, you better get a good one.
Not any ol' chair will do. Office chairs are specially designed for the comfort of sitting for extremely prolonged periods of time and are designed by the studies of ergonomics. Ergonomics is the study of human engineering. Such studies optimize in the height of a table or computer desk and chairs for human bodies. They also study furniture comfortability, psychological effects and ease of use. The practical application of this information is then applied to the furniture we use. A Yale University study calculated that you have over a 70 percent greater chance of herniating a disk if you sit more than half the time of your job. 8 hours equals the average workday (I hope, any longer and...) 4 hours is about half that about and is equal to about how much time hardcore studio enthusiasts sit making music, often time much longer.
Nowadays, the best office chairs come equipped tih all sorts of extras for relaxation, like massaging, electronic adjustment, come even have built in audio speakers and audio input and outputs. Some days you will spend more time in your office chair than you do sleeping, so it's only fair it deserves just as much attention. Spend money on a good office chair like you would a good bed mattress and you'll thank me for it
